Gary Alexander Neville is a successful defender, primarily at right back, who is the captain for Manchester United. Gary Neville comes from a very sporting family. His brother Phil Neville captaining Everton FC, his sister being a netball player at professional level, and his dad being his son's agent.
Gary Neville has always played for Manchester United. He joined the club when he was very young, playing for the youth side for some years before joining the adult team in 1992. Gary Neville was an instant success, playing in an era where Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was playing a lot of young players, such as David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and even his own brother, Phil Neville. The side were very successful, but Gary Neville didn’t pick up any major silverware until later in his career.
Following the departure of Roy Keane in late 2005, Gary Neville was announced as Manchester United’s new captain, and he has worn the armband ever since. Since his debut for the senior team in 2002, Gary Neville has made over three hundred and fifty appearances for the Old Trafford club, scoring just five goals, but stopping many more. During his sixteen years at senior level at Manchester United, Gary Neville has won an unbelievable amount of major trophies, including seven Premier League titles, three FA Cups, two Champions League titles and one League Cup as well as many Community Shields. In recent times, however, Gary Neville isn’t playing so much due to recurring injuries, and his contract runs out this season, but there is no suggestion he might leave Old Trafford.
Gary Neville’s international career has been a very successful era, playing for England since 1995, he has made eighty five caps for his country, and has played in three European Championships (1996, 2000 and 2004), as well as three World Cups (1998, 2002 and 2006), although his international appearances, as with his club appearances, are becoming less and less frequent with the introduction of younger, fitter right backs such as Micah Richards, as well as Gary Neville himself picking up injuries that have been putting him out of international games, and his future at international level is uncertain now that the new England manager Fabio Capello has taken over. The experienced right back holds the record for playing the most games in an outfield position with out scoring for England!
