Michael Adrian Carrick is a twenty six year old midfielder for Manchester United. He wears the number sixteen, and is best known for his incredible passing skills. He is originally from England, and has lived in Britain for his whole life so far.
Michael Carrick started his playing career when he was extremely young, and went to the famous West Ham United academy, where he played as a centre forward rather than a centre midfielder. He first played professional football for West Ham United, where he spent six years, making one hundred and thirty six appearances and scoring six goals. He was then loaned to Swindon Town and Birmingham City for one year at each of those two clubs. His brilliant performances as a central midfielder attracted many top clubs, but Carrick ended up signing for Tottenham Hotspur in 2004 for just under three million pounds, which is what turned out to be a bargain.
It was at Tottenham Hotspur where he made a name for himself, getting known as a brilliant midfielder, who could perform brilliant tackles and pass the ball like few others could, and it was these performances that brought him to the attention of the Manchester United scouts.
Manchester United eventually signed him on the thirty first of August in 2006 for over eighteen million pounds, a figure that rose due to Manchester United’s success. Michael Carrick has been crucial to the success of the ‘Red Devils’ for the past two seasons now, helping them win the league in both seasons, and also helping the Manchester team to win the Champions League in the 2007-08 season, with manager Alex Ferguson telling him to push forward more, and this tactic seemed to be successful as Carrick has now scored eight goals for them, and helping the ‘Red Devils’ to secure a community shield as well as the Premier League and Champions League titles, although Carrick is yet to be in a side that has won the FA Cup, the closest he came was being runners up in the 2006-07 season.
Michael Carrick has been reasonably successful at international level as well, with his first start coming in May 2005 after two substitute appearances ranging back to 2001. Sven Goran Eriksson chose to include Michael Carrick in the squad for the 2006 World Cup, in which he played just one game, and failed to make any real impact. Carrick has been relatively over looked by recent England managers, with both Steve McClaren and Fabio Capello choosing not to include him in their team sheets.
