Nemanja Vidic is a Serbian born central defender with a lot of talent. He is known for being extremely strong, and very few attackers get passed him. He is just twenty six years old, so he still has a lot of time to grow in to an even better defender and he wears the number fifteen shirt.
In his youth, Nemanja Vidic played for three different youth teams. He spent four years at Jedinstvo Užice, before joining Sloboda Užice where he spent two years, and he then moved to Red Star Belgrade, which is a well known Serbian club. He spent four years there at youth level, before being loaned out to Spartak Subotica where he stayed for one year before going back to Red Star Belgrade, where he spent a further three years, making sixty six senior appearances, and scored twelve goals. Nemanja Vidic was also captain of Red Star Belgrade for three years. He won three major trophies while at Red Star Belgrade, including the Yugoslav Cup, the Serbian Superliga, and the Serbia and Montenegro Cup.
In 2004, Vidic’s talent was recognized and he was sold to Russian club Spartak Moscow, where he spent two years, making thirty nine appearances and scoring four goals, which is still a commendable achievement, considering he is a defender.
After the two years in Russia, Nemanja Vidic was sold to Manchester United for a fee that is believed to be around seven million pounds, but the exact amount was undisclosed. During his first year at Old Trafford, Vidic made a reputation for himself as one of the best defenders in Europe, playing ‘no nonsense’ football and winning himself a spot in the PFA ‘Team of the Year’. In his second season at Manchester United, Nemanja Vidic suffered from several injuries, including a broken collar bone near the end of the season. Even after the time out of football, Vidic still secured a place in the Team of the Year for a second year running, and helped Manchester United to win successive League Titles as well as the Champions League. In his time with the ‘Red Devils’ so far, Vidic has made over seventy appearances and has scored four goals for the club.
Although Vidic’s international team is not particularly successful, Nemanja Vidic has still had a good career playing for Serbia and Montenegro, reaching the 2006 World Cup finals after him and the ‘famous four’ defense, as they are known in Serbia, allowed just one goal passed them in the whole of qualifying, a new record for any country.
